October is Cybersecurity month in Canada which provides a great opportunity to refresh your knowledge on different cyber scams to watch out for, and to add extra protection to your accounts with a few of our online features, such as Setting Up Alerts and Setting Up Biometrics.
Our features:
- Set up alerts on your online banking to stay on top of your account activity. Account alerts allow you to monitor specific accounts so you can track activities such as withdrawals, your account balance, insufficient funds, and failed transactions. To set up this feature on your accounts, see our virtual demo.
- Set up biometrics (face recognition or thumbprint) to log into your mobile app. Steps to set up this feature can be found on our FAQs page.
- The Lock’NBlock card feature allows you to “lock” your member card and “block” a variety of unwanted or unauthorized debit card functions or transactions. Once available, to set up this feature on your accounts, see our virtual demo.
Tips to keep accounts secure:
- Do not share passwords.
- Use unique and complex passwords for every account and device. If you would like to reset your password, see our virtual demo.
- More tips for online security can be found on the Government of Canada site.
A few known Cyber Scams:
- Phishing: when you get unsolicited email that claims to be from a legitimate organization asking you to provide or verify personal information like your credit card number, passwords, and social insurance number, either via email or by clicking on a web link.
- Smishing: The same as phishing, except it occurs via text message.
- Tax Scams: You get a text message or email from the Canada Revenue Agency claiming you are entitled to an extra refund or owe money and that you are required to provide your banking details.
